CPI(M) leader P. Jayarajan on Thursday (April 2, 2026) alleged that the United Democratic Front (UDF), fearing imminent defeat in the Taliparamba Assembly constituency, has resorted to baseless allegations and misinformation campaigns against Left Democratic Front (LDF) candidate V.K. Shyamala. Addressing a press conference, Mr. Jayarajan claimed that the UDF and its candidate had launched a smear campaign after realising that Ms. Shyamala was set to win with a large majority. He further alleged that an individual who had once wielded influence in power circles had quit the party after failing to secure a candidature and was now aligning with the UDF. “If things did not proceed as intended, such individuals might even collaborate with Hindutva forces and could later turn against the Congress and the IUML with similar allegations,” he said.
