CPI National Control Commission Chairman K. Narayana has reiterated that Amaravati is the rightful capital of Andhra Pradesh, reflecting the long-standing aspirations of the people.

In a statement on Thursday, Mr. Narayana said the proposal to recognise Amaravati as the capital had already been approved in Parliament. He noted that the demand for a capital in the Vijayawada region dated back to 1952, when the CPI first advocated it following separation from Madras.

Criticising Y.S. Jagan Mohan Reddy and the YSRCP, he alleged that their attempt to introduce a three-capital model weakened Amaravati and led to political setbacks for the party. He also faulted YSRCP members for boycotting Parliament during the introduction of the Amaravati Bill and for their absence in the State Assembly during its passage.

At the same time, Mr. Narayana said the ruling side too had fallen short. He pointed out that Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu and the TDP should have simultaneously pressed for Special Category Status and implementation of assurances under the AP Reorganisation Act.
