GOVARTHAN Minister for Housing, Prohibition and Excise S. Muthusamy, who is also the party’s south district secretary, on Thursday filed his nomination papers to contest from the Erode (West) Assembly constituency. He submitted his papers to Erode Revenue Divisional Officer N. Sindhuja, the Returning Officer for the constituency. The 77-year-old incumbent, a resident of East Coast Road, Injambakkam, whose name is enrolled in the Sholinganallur constituency, has declared movable assets worth ₹1.79 crore in his name and ₹2.21 crore in the name of the Hindu Undivided Family (HUF). His immovable assets are valued at ₹6.20 crore, while those of the HUF are worth ₹9.76 crore. The affidavit states that he has no liabilities and that his primary source of income is agriculture. Addressing the media after filing his nomination, Mr. Muthusamy said the achievements of the Chief Minister over the past five years had found a place in the hearts of the people and expressed confidence that the DMK-led alliance would secure victory in the election. He said several long-pending projects had been completed under the present government and that the party was receiving a warm response from the public at every campaign stop. “We will continue to fulfil the expectations of the people,” he said. Responding to allegations by Tamil Maanila Congress candidate M. Yuvaraja that the DMK was relying solely on money power, the Minister said such remarks undermined the intelligence of voters. “The Opposition is speaking in a manner that insults the common people. Voters will not be influenced by such claims. They will assess who can provide better governance and vote for a better future,” he said.
