Shivamogga City Corporation received around ₹1.3 crore in the form of property tax on Thursday, the first day of banking operations in the current fiscal year.

Armed with documents, hundreds of residents visited the Indian Bank City Corporation Extension Counter on the corporation premises to pay the property tax. A majority of them were senior citizens.

Commissioner Mayanna Gowda told The Hindu that on the day, the corporation received around ₹1.3 crore. The corporation’s target of the property tax for the year is around ₹55 crore.

The corporation had arranged for chairs in front of the counter so that the citizens could relax.
