Police Flag Day celebrated in Yadgir, Raichur

Police Flag Day was celebrated at the Police Parade Grounds in Yadgir and Raichur districts on Thursday.

Superintendent of Police (retired) Arun Kumar Kolur, who participated as a chief guest in Yadgir, said that police officers and staff should take precautions to maintain good health as they need physical and mental strength to discharge duty round the clock, under all circumstances.

He advised policemen to develop good attitude while on duty and extend selfless service to the needy, especially elderly people and women.

He also said that police should adopt new technology to crack down on cases through thorough investigation by using advanced methods.

Additional Superintendent of Police S.P. Dharanesh said that Police Flag Day is being celebrated in the memory of the implementation of the Police Act on the same day and month in 1965.

As much as 50% of the amount collected by selling police flags is being deposited into the Police Welfare Fund. A sum of ₹10 lakh scholarship has been paid for the children of police officers and staff in 2025-26 and ₹1.35 lakh has been spent for purchasing spectacles for police officers and other staff.

He also said that, so far, 86 applications by retired police officers seeking financial aid on health grounds have been submitted and ₹9.45 lakh compensation has been paid.

In a similar programme in Raichur, Sub-Inspector of Police (retired) Basavaraj said that the police should adopt discipline and render selfless service to people who come seeking justice.

A policeman’s job is not easy. He has to carry out his duty despite all odds and his personal commitments to ensure society’s peace and protect the interests of people and even public property.

Superintendent of Police Arunangshu Giri, who presided over the programme, said that 82 retired police officers and staff have taken ₹9.13 lakh medical aid under the Arogya Bhagya scheme for 2025-26 in the district.

He added that ₹1.50 lakh has been released for the funeral of the dead police staff members.

Additional Superintendent of Police Kumarswamy, Deputy Superintendents of Police Pramanand Ghorake and Dattatraya Karnad and other officers and staff were present.
