A total of 22 candidates filed 26 nominations to contest in eight Assembly constituencies in the district, on the second day of filing nominations for the Assembly election here on Thursday. The number of nominations filed in each constituency was as follows: Erode (East) – two; Erode (West) – seven; Modakkurichi – two; Perundurai – eight; Bhavani – two; Anthiyur – nil; Gobichettipalayam – three and Bhavanisagar (Reserved) – two. Of the total 22 candidates, 18 were men and four were women. On the first day of filing nomination on March 30, a total of 25 candidates filed 33 nominations in the district. Nominations can be filed on April 4 and on the final day, April 6. Scrutiny of nominations will take place on April 7, while nominations can be withdrawn till 3 p.m. on April 9. Polling is scheduled for April 23.
