In one of the largest narcotics seizures in Kerala in recent times, the anti-narcotics squad on Thursday (April 2, 2026) seized nearly 3 kg of MDMA in incidents at Mukkam in Kozhikode district.

During a flash check near the bus stop close to the Mukkom Civil Station in the morning, Mohammed Haneefa, 36, of Nileeshwaram in Mukkom was nabbed with over 500 g of MDMA in his possession.

The highly confidential operation was carried out by the District Anti-Narcotics Special Action Force (DANSAF) under the leadership of District Police Chief (Kozhikode Rural) T. Farash. Police sources said Haneefa had been under surveillance for his suspected involvement in large-scale drug trafficking across Kerala.

According to senior police officers, the accused recently came from Delhi and was intercepted while allegedly attempting to transport the contraband for local distribution. Preliminary investigation suggested that he was a key wholesale supplier, facilitating the inflow of narcotics into the State from New Delhi.

Subsequent interrogation led the police to a rented house at Manassery, where the accused had reportedly stored additional quantities of the synthetic drug. Further searches on the premises resulted in the seizure of approximately 2.3 kg of MDMA. A woman present at the house was also taken into custody for further interrogation.

Police sources said a detailed investigation was under way into the incident. They said a wider network was suspected of colluding with the gang under Haneefa for inter-State supply of narcotic substance.
