VELANKANNI RAJ Get ready to loosen your purse strings as flying out of Chennai to a few of the metro and tier II cities just got dearer. A one-way flight from Chennai to Thoothukudi now costs nearly as much as flying to New Delhi. It is to be noted that the price of jet fuel or Aviation Turbine Fuel, which makes up nearly 40% of an airline’s operating cost, saw a partial hike on April 1 and in the last week of March, as the Centre removed the cap on airfares. Some of the sectors that have seen a rise in airfare for travel in April include Chennai-Madurai, Chennai-Thoothukudi, Chennai-New Delhi, and Chennai-Bengaluru.
