The Upparpet police have arrested K. Mallu, 50, the registrar of the Karnataka State Nursing Council, for allegedly sexually harassing a female employee, officials said on Wednesday.

According to the police, the 25-year-old complainant, who was working in the registrar’s office, approached the police on March 26 alleging that she was being sexually harassed by the registrar and she was unable to continue working.

Based on her complaint, an FIR was registered with the Upparpet police. As part of the procedure, the police issued a notice to the accused to appear for questioning. However, he reportedly failed to comply. “Since the suspect did not appear before the investigating officer despite repeated reminders, the police arrested the accused on March 31,” a senior official said. He was produced before the court and remanded to judicial custody for further investigation on Wednesday.
