IT & HRD Minister Nara Lokesh has said that the passage of the Andhra Pradesh Reorganisation (Amendment) Bill, 2026 gave him immense joy and it was a historic moment in the Lok Sabha (LS).

He stated that the Andhra Pradesh (AP) Legislative Assembly previously passed a unanimous resolution designating Amaravati as the Capital and the approval of the above Bill made the five crore people of AP extremely happy.

Mr. Lokesh expressed his gratitude to the Central government and the parties which supported the move to give Amaravati the much — needed legal sanctity as the only Capital of AP. The passage of the Bill was a victory for the people of AP, he added.

Municipal Administration Minister P. Narayana thanked Prime Minister Narendra Modi for having the AP Reorganization (Amendment) Bill, 2026 passed in the Lok Sabha.

He stated in a press release that the passage of the Bill was made possible by untiring efforts of the Chief Minister N. Chandrababu and the persistent fight by the farmers against the YSR Congress Party’s attempts to shift the capital out of Amaravati on whimsical grounds.

Consequent to the passage of AP Reorganisation (Amendment) Bill, Amaravati became the Capital of Andhra Pradesh w.e.f. June 2, 2024, Mr. Narayana said, while noting that the government was focused on developing all the regions including Amaravati.
