Riteish Deshmukh in ‘Raja Shivaji’ | Photo Credit: JioStudios The first look teaser of Riteish Deshmukh’s upcoming film, Raja Shivaji, was unveiled by the makers on Tuesday, March 31, 2026. The historical biopic on the life of Maratha warrior king Chhatrapati Shivaji Bhosle has also been helmed by Riteish and stars Sanjay Dutt, Abhishek Bachchan, Vidya Balan, Fardeen Khan, Mahesh Manjrekar, Boman Irani, Jitendra Joshi, Genelia D’Souza and Boman Irani in pivotal roles. The 2 minute 31 seconds teaser gives a glimpse into the world of the film where Sanjay plays a Mughal ruler, who wants to end Maratha rule. It opens with the death of Mahesh’s character as Abhishek introduces himself valiantly as Shambhaji Bhosle. The teaser also offers a brief glimpse into the characters played by other actors. Riteish is introduced as Shivaji Bhonsle as he is seen killing Mughal troops. He declares his goal of ‘Swarajya’ or self-rule and vows to free the state from the clutches of the Mughal. The film promises to be an action-packed outing, telling the story of the Maratha warrior king and his rise to glory. Raja Shivaji has been written by Ajit Wadekar, Sandeep Patil, Riteish with dialogues by Prajakt Deshmukh. It is shot by Santosh Shivan and features music by Ajay-Atul. The film will be released in theatres on May 1 in Marathi, Hindi and Telugu. It marks the second directorial venture of Riteish, who has earlier made the Marathi film, Ved (2022).
