In light of the Indore water contamination incident, Water Minister Parvesh Sahib Singh has directed the Delhi Jal Board (DJB) to intensify regular inspection of water supply pipelines, the Minister’s office said on Wednesday.

“Intensify regular inspections of all water supply pipelines, particularly in areas where drinking water lines run in proximity to sewer lines, to detect and repair any leaks, damages, or potential points of cross-contamination immediately,” a statement said.

At least seven people have died, and over 200 were hospitalised after drinking contaminated water in Bhagirathpura, Indore.

The Minister asked the DJB to deploy dedicated teams for round-the-clock vigilance of drinking water supply and maintenance in high-density and vulnerable areas.

“Ensure prompt response to public complaints regarding water quality, odour, taste, or discoloration, with on-ground verification and corrective action within the shortest possible time,” the statement added.

The DJB manages the drinking water supply and sewage management in Delhi.

Mr. Singh has also directed periodic audits of infrastructure to identify vulnerable sections and prioritise repairs or replacements to prevent untreated water or external contaminants from mixing with the potable supply network.
