The Maharashtra Government on Tuesday (March 31, 2026) appointed senior IAS officer Ashwini Bhide as the Municipal Commissioner of the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC), making her the first woman to head one of the oldest and richest civic bodies in the country.

Incumbent Municipal Commissioner Bhushan Gagrani, who completed his tenure on Tuesday (March 31), handed over charge to Ms. Bhide, who will be replaced by IAS officer Lokesh Chandra in her previous post as Additional Chief Secretary in the Chief Minister’s Office.
