The Telangana State Waqf Board (TGWB) on Tuesday received another extension for uploading, checking, and approving documents connected to waqf properties on the UMEED portal. Speaking to The Hindu, TGWB Chief Executive Officer Mohammed Asadullah confirmed the development, and said that the board had recently sought an additional extension, which was granted on Tuesday. While March 31 was the deadline set by the Waqf Tribunal under the previous extension, the new deadline is May 31. Mr. Asadullah said that work would resume as usual. According to sources who requested anonymity, a vast majority of the work, including the uploading of documents as well as their verification and approval, has been completed. The development marks multiple requests for extensions on different occasions, taking the total extension period to six months. Soon after the announcement of the UMEED portal, the TGWB as well as mutawallis and managing committees of waqf institutions, including masjids, had faced confusion as regards procedures. Technical difficulties, and a lack of clarity too, had frustrated users.
