Former Madurai AIADMK MLA joins DMK

K. Tamilarasan, an AIADMK functionary and a former MLA from Madurai East joined in the DMK in the presence of its party president M. K. Stalin in Chennai on Monday.

According to DMK party sources, Mr. Tamilarasan, was accompanied by Minister P. Moorthy and other functionaries.

In 2011, Mr. Tamilarasan won the seat after defeating Mr. Moorthy of the DMK.

Showering encomiums on Mr. Moorthy and the DMK, Mr. Tamilarasan said that the DMK front would emerge victorious in 2026 elections and form the government.

However, AIADMK members said that after he was denied ticket to contest, he had quit the party. “The AIADMK is an institution built by its cadres over the last several years… One person quitting will in no way affect the organisation,” they said.

The former MLA was expecting the AIADMK to give him an opportunity to contest in Madurai East Assembly Constituency. However, the high command had taken a stand to give the ticket to another qualified person. As a sincere and committed worker, Mr. Tamilarasan should have worked for the victory of the candidate identified by the party, they added.

Election office opened

Opening the new election office in Madurai East Constituency, sitting MLA and Minister P. Moorthy addressed the workers. He said that the five year rule had witnessed several developments. It was the responsibility of each worker to make door-to-door visits and explain the achievements to the voters without fail.

The Booth Level Agents and ward secretaries were also sensitised to check with the voters ward wise in the extension areas of the Assembly Constituency. “We should increase the victory margin of Mr. Moorthy this year than the previous election,” the speakers said.
