15 candidates file nominations on day one in Tirunelveli

A total of 15 candidates filed their nominations for the five Assembly constituencies of Tirunelveli, Ambasamudram, Palayamkottai, Nanguneri and Radhapuram in the district on Monday.

Two nominations each were filed for Palayamkottai and Ambasamudram, four each for Nanguneri and Radhapuram and three for Tirunelveli segment.

As instructed by their top leadership, the ‘official’ candidates of Naam Thamizhar Katchi and their alternate contestants filed their nominations for all five segments in the district.

NTK candidate P. Sathya of Krishnapuram and independents Thalapathi Murugan of Tirunelveli Junction and Athisayam of Tirunelveli filed their nominations.

Interestingly, Ms. Sathya polled 19,162 votes in the 2021 Assembly election in Tirunelveli segment and 49,935 votes in 2019 and 87,686 votes in 2024 Parliamentary elections as the NTK candidate without any alliance partners.

She has declared immovable assets worth ₹1.44 crore in her name and ₹6.35 lakh in her husband’s name. However, the couple has no immovable assets in their names. She was convicted by the Nanguneri court for participating in a demonstration organised during the COVID-19 pandemic condemning the custodial death of Sattankulam traders Jayaraj and his son J. Benicks. A simple fine was imposed.

For Ambasamudram segment, NTK candidate V. Sivasankaran of Aavichipatti under Naththam taluk in Dindigul district and Naam Inthiyar Katchi candidate N. Balasubramanian of Korampallam in Thoothukudi district filed their papers.

Mr. Sivasankaran has declared movable assets worth ₹16.57 lakh in his name and ₹50.78 lakh in his wife’s name and immovable assets worth ₹40 lakh in his name and ₹40 lakh in his wife’s name. The couple has loans to the tune of ₹10.30 lakh.

Two candidates ,including S. Thangadurai of Naam Inthiyar Katchi from Pudukottai in Thoothukudi district and NTK candidate S. Sankaranarayanan of Rahmath Nagar in Palayamkottai, filed their nominations for Palayamkottai constituency. Mr. Sankaranarayanan, the eldest son of NTK southern region coordinator Sivakumar, has declared movable assets worth ₹25.65 lakh in his name and ₹27.58 lakh in the name of his wife.

NTK candidate S. Selvam of Cheranmahadevi, alternate candidate S. Velgopal and independents T. Lingadurai and S. Shanmugasundram filed their nominations for Nanguneri constituency. Mr. Selvam has declared movable assets worth ₹10.04 lakh in his name and ₹29.95 lakh in his wife’s name and ₹33.50 lakh-worth immovable asset in his wife’s name. The couple has a loan of ₹2.56 lakh in his name and ₹25 lakh housing loan with Life Insurance Corporation in his wife’s name.

NTK candidate D. Girija of Sivasubramanianpuram near Radhapuram, alternate candidate S. Nanthini Kumari of Koodankulam, independent candidates R. Ananthi of Valliyoor and Anand Prasad of Radhapuram filed their papers for Radhapuram segment.

Ms. Girija has declared assets worth ₹38.76 lakh in her name and movable assets worth ₹13.54 lakh, immovable assets worth ₹18.74 lakh and ₹11.15 lakh loan in the name of her husband S. Thamaraipandian and Ms. Nanthini possesses movable assets worth ₹20.11 lakh and has ₹3.28 lakh loan.
