According to an order issued by Chief Wildlife Warden Pramod G. Krishnan, nearly 100 new births have been reported in the park so far this year. “ENP celebrated its golden jubilee in 2025, a year that saw a record 144 new calves. With this year’s calving season now complete, visitors will be able to sight the Nilgiri tahrs starting Wednesday,” an official stated. ENP authorities said that the annual population estimation of the Nilgiri tahr is scheduled to take place during the last week of April. New features During the seasonal closure, the Forest department introduced several new features to enhance the visitor experience. Officials highlighted the new ‘rainbow point,’ a designated spot where visitors can enjoy the scenic landscape and frequent rainbow sightings characteristic of the area. Additionally, a three-tier photo point has been established near the Kurinji garden, along with a new medicinal garden featuring over 200 species of rare plants. “We expect the rainbow view point, the photo point, and the medicinal garden to be major new attractions for tourists this season,” said the official.
