The filing of nominations for the Tamil Nadu Legislative Assembly Election 2026 began on Monday across Coimbatore district, with proceedings conducted smoothly. A total of 14 candidates submitted their nominations across the district’s ten constituencies. Candidates of Naam Tamilar Katchi (NTK) figured prominently among those who filed their papers. G. Narmadha, 44, of Vadavalli filed from Coimbatore (North), while V. Perarivalan, 25, of Kavundampalayam entered the fray from Coimbatore (South). In Kinathukadavu, M. Banupriya, 42, of Madukkarai filed papers as the party’s candidate. In Thondamuthur, NTK candidate Rajabu Nisha Z., 25, engaged in business, filed her nomination. In Valparai, E. Padmavathi, 27, and P. Umadevi, 29, both from Anaimalai, submitted their papers. G. Nehruji filed papers from Singanallur on behalf of the party. N. Senthil Kumar, 51, a businessman, filed from Pollachi, while S. Rajasekaran, 53, a college professor, filed from Sulur. S. Gopalakrishnan, 42, a farmer involved in construction business, filed from Mettupalayam, and Kalamani Jeganathan, 38, filed from Kavundampalayam, all representing NTK. Among independent candidates, S. Geetha, 53, of K.C. Thottam filed from Coimbatore (South). A. Noor Muhamad and K. Ramasamy, 75, filed their nominations from Thondamuthur. Meanwhile, NTK candidate V. Perarivalan, a new entrant employed in a private company, filed his nomination before the Returning Officer for Coimbatore (South) by depositing ₹10,000 in ₹10 coins and currency notes. He stated that the gesture was intended to draw attention to allegations of corruption against DMK candidate V. Senthil Balaji. He further said he would campaign extensively and described the contest in the constituency as primarily between the DMK and NTK.
