K.K. Surendran, Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) Palakkad area general secretary, has urged Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan to make public the alleged understanding with the Social Democratic Party of India (SDPI). “The Communist Party of India (Marxist) [CPI(M)]-SDPI alignment exposes a double standard in the Chief Minister’s position,” Mr. Surendran said. Addressing the media here on Monday (March 30, 2026), Mr. Surendran further alleged that if the United Democratic Front (UDF) comes to power, the chief minister would be chosen by an “extremist high command.” He also accused the CPI(M) and the Congress of fuelling communal polarisation in Malappuram district. According to him, the CPI(M) has not allotted a single winnable seat to minority communities in the district, while the Congress has fielded minority candidates only in reserved constituencies. Mr. Surendran further alleged that extremist religious groups have influenced candidate selection, citing the CPI(M)’s nominees in Mankada and Vengara, as well as the UDF’s candidate in Vengara, as examples.
