Nineteen candidates, including three MLAs, have filed their nomination papers on March 30, the first day of filling of nomination papers for the Tamil Nadu Legislative Assembly elections, to be held on April 23.

According to official sources, Thiruvidaimaruthur MLA and former Minister Govi. Chezhian of DMK, Thiruvaiyaru MLA Durai Chandrasekaran of DMK and Kumbakonam MLA G. Anbalagan have filed their nomination papers.

On the other hand, all the nominees of Naam Tamilar Katchi for the eight Assembly segments in Thanjavur district – Bhuvana Maniyarasan for Peravurani; S.Kannan for Pattukottai; S.Thirumurugan for Orathanadu; N.Krishnakumar for Thanjavur; D.Senthilnathan for Thiruvaiyaru; Anis Fathima for Papanasam; M.Anandh for Kumbakonam and M.Divyabharathi for Thiruvidaimaruthur – have presented their papers to the EROs of the respective constituencies.

While NTK representatives Rama Ravi, T. Udhayakumaran, G. Eganathan and Mumtaj Begam have submitted their papers as ‘dummy candidates’ for the NTK’s official nominees to Peravurani, Pattukottai, Orathanadu. and Papanasam segments, respectively, Independent candidates – Ajis Kannan for Orathanadu, Santhosh and Muradharan for Thanjavur, and Abdul Raheem for Papanasam also presented their nomination papers with the EROs of respective constituencies.

In Tiruvarur district, all the official NTK nominees to Tiruvarur – B. Aswini; Nannilam – D. Thenmozhi; Mannargudi – Bharathiselvan and Thiruthuraipoondi – R. Vinothini, filed their nomination papers on Monday.

While the ‘dummy candidates’ for Ms.Thenmozhi – S.Devi and for Bharathiselvan – Aravindan, have submitted their papers, M. Marimuthu, an Independent candidate, filed his nomination papers for Mannargudi constituency, sources said.
