Idukki District Congress Committee (DCC) president C.P. Mathew allegedly manhandled a differently-abled Congress worker who was attempting to take a selfie with Shashi Tharoor, MP. The incident occurred at Onnam Mile near Kumily on Monday.

The incident took place during a scheduled public meeting and roadshow for Peerumade Assembly constituency UDF candidate Cyriac Thomas. When Mr. Tharoor arrived at the venue, a Congress worker from Vandiperiyar, identified as Mahesh, approached him for a selfie. Upon noticing this, Mr. Mathew reportedly manhandled the worker and kicked him away from the area. Other Congress workers questioned the move, leading to a heated argument with the DCC president.

As news channel cameras captured the incident, other party workers quickly intervened. They brought the worker back to the venue and arranged for him to take a selfie with Mr. Tharoor to de-escalate the situation. The worker has not yet filed a formal complaint against Mr. Mathew.

While addressing the gathering, Mr. Tharoor emphasised that to resolve the ongoing issues in the plantation sector, voters must ensure the victory of Mr. Thomas. He predicted that the UDF would secure 100 seats in the upcoming elections and would select a competent Chief Minister.

“For the past ten years, the people of the State have been facing numerous issues,” said Mr. Tharoor.

Telangana Panchayati Raj and Rural Development Minister Danasari Anasuya aka Seethakka, KPCC general secretary Ibrahimkutty Kallar, Idukki MP Dean Kuriakose, and Mr. Thomas, among others attended the meeting.
