Assembly session was wasted on personal attacks, not public issues: BJP

The BJP has alleged that both the ruling Congress and the main opposition BRS failed to hold “meaningful discussions” during the recently concluded five‑day Assembly session, instead resorting to personal attacks rather than explaining their record on the use of Krishna River water or the conversion of industrial lands.

Addressing a press conference at the party’s State office on Wednesday, Medak MP M. Raghunandan Rao said the “name‑sake session” had exposed the “double standards” of both parties. He questioned why they had been unable to explain their failure to supply adequate water to Mahabubnagar region despite being in power for the last two years and 10 years, respectively.

“There were not even 20 Congress MLAs present when Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy was speaking, and that shows the seriousness of the government on the issue. And why did the BRS MLAs walk out instead of taking on the ruling party and its policies? They speak outside but completely failed as the main opposition inside the House,” he said.

According to him, it was the seven BJP MLAs who played an effective role as the Opposition by questioning the government on river water utilisation and the HILT — Hyderabad Industrial Land Transformation — policy. “I congratulate our MLAs. Though fewer in number, we demanded clarifications from the government and spoke on behalf of the people of Telangana,” he said.

On the phone‑tapping case, Mr. Rao blamed the government and the police for conducting what he called a “ham‑handed investigation” without providing proper evidence to the courts. “I am one of the first victims. The current Chief Minister, when he was in the Opposition, and a former Chief Minister’s daughter had also claimed they were under illegal surveillance. What is needed is technical evidence, but a drama is unfolding in the name of investigation,” he remarked.

Meanwhile, BJP State president N. Ramchander Rao will travel to Warangal and Hanamkonda on Thursday and Friday to meet leaders and cadre and galvanise them ahead of the upcoming municipal elections.
