In the light of church groups expressing serious concerns over the amendments, Mr. George said on Monday (March 30, 2026) that only those establishments involved in irregular financial transactions should be worried. He added that churches, which maintain proper accounts, should have no reason for concern regarding the amendments. He said some NGOs had received foreign funds for “anti-national activities” and that the proposed amendments were aimed at targeting such groups. However, the Left and the Congress were trying to propagate that the amendments were targeted at church groups, he added.
