Image used for representational purpose only. | Photo Credit: The Hindu India added 6.34 gigawatts (GW)-worth wind energy capacity in the calendar year 2025 with the total capacity in the country scaling 54.51 GW at the end of the year, Union Minister for New and Renewable Energy Pralhad Joshi informed Wednesday (January 7, 2026). Poignant to note, the capacity added in 2025 is approximately 85.4% higher than the capacity added in the preceding calendar year. For perspective, India installed 3.42 GW worth capacity in 2024. It had closed the year with 48.16 GW wind capacity.
