Three sitting councillors of Greater Chennai Corporation (GCC) have been nominated by the DMK to contest the Assembly election 2026. Councillors A. Raja Anbazhagan, of ward 141, N. Chitrarasu of ward 110 and A.P. Poornima, of ward 87, have been included on the list of candidates announced by the party on Saturday. N. Chitrarasu who is contesting from Anna Nagar Assembly Constituency is also the GCC Works Committee Chairman. A.P.Poornima will contest from Ambattur Assembly Constituency. A.Raja Anbazhagan will contest from Thiyagaraya nagar Assembly Constituency. He is the son of former DMK MLA J.Anbazhagan who was elected from the same constituency in 2001. The AIADMK candidate in the constituency is also a former GCC Councillor B.Sathyanarayanan who became MLA in 2016. He lost with a narrow margin of 137 votes to DMK’s J.Karunanidhi in the 2021 election.
