A 28-year-old man died after the car in which he was travelling fell into a canal at Parackal Kadavu here on Sunday. The deceased was identified as Anoop, a native of Thottakkad. According to Fire and Rescue Services officials, two other occupants of the car were rescued by locals. The incident occurred at around 4 p.m. when the car lost control while entering the compound of a toddy shop and plunged into the canal, officials said. While bystanders managed to rescue the other two, the car with Anoop inside got completely submerged in the water. A scuba diving team from the Kottayam Fire and Rescue Station later carried out an underwater operation and pulled out Anoop from the submerged vehicle. He was rushed to a nearby hospital, where he was declared dead, officials said. Police have registered a case and initiated an investigation into the incident.
