Physical activity builds long-term strength and discipline, and students should adopt sports as a regular habit, national badminton coach P. Gopichand said, stressing the importance of integrating sports into daily life.

Part of the ‘Sundays on Cycle’ programme, organised at IIT- Hyderabad on Sunday, he appreciated the institute for promoting a culture of fitness through running and cycling events.

The event witnessed hundreds of participants from the institute and elsewhere, in the 10 km and 20 km routes on campus. Warm-up sessions, zumba, and other community engagement activities were included.

Director of IIT-H B.S. Murty said that fitness and well-being are integral to education. Plans are underway to integrate sports into the academic framework, with sustained participation in sports being linked to academic credits.

Director of Fit India Movement Sushant Kandwal, cyclists and ambassadors Chandna Jayaram, Ravi Netha and Santhana Selvan, among others, participated.
