Vijayendra arrived in Davangere on Sunday. They held various meetings with leaders of various communities. They spoke at meetings of Veerashaiva, Nekar, Dhobi, Vishwa Karma and other communities and appealed to them to support the party nominee Srinivas Dasakariyappa in the byelections. Speaking at a meeting of Nekar community, Mr. Vijayendra recalled various steps taken by his father B.S. Yediyurappa for the welfare of various communities, including Nekar, when he was the Chief Minister. “Mr. Yediyurappa established community development corporations, started focussed schemes, gave subsidies and incentives, bought saris woven by poor weavers and launched celebrations of birth centenaries of several community leaders,” he said. “I am sure that voters of Davangere South constituency want change this time and will support the BJP candidate Srinivas Dasakariappa. Davangere is a clear case of Congress maladministration. Despite winning several times, the Congress has not contributed to the development of the city. Voters are fed up with this and will support us this time,” he said. “Even though the constituency has been under the control of the Congress for so many years, no development work has been done there. They have decided that the BJP should win this time,” he said. He said that the only time Davangere witnessed some development was when the BJP was in power in the State and when BJP leaders were elected to the Lok Sabha. “Our candidate is a common man. If he wins, it means that there is justice in society. He will ensure equal opportunities to all communities, including the poor, backward classes, Scheduled Castes and Scheduled Tribes,” he said. He said that the former Chief Ministers Mr. Yediyurappa and Basavaraj Bommai, Leaders of Opposition R. Ashok and Chalavadi Narayanswami and other leaders will campaign in Davangere and Bagalkot. Leaders G.M. Siddeshwar, Shivayogi Swami, B.P. Harish, N. Rajshekar, Shivanagouda Nayak, Gayatri Siddeshwar and others were present.
