Around 10,000 voters, students, members of self-help groups and persons with disabilities flew kites, made sculptures out of beach sand, cycled and rode two-wheelers to ensure 100% voting in Chengalpattu district. Saturday evening witnessed a 40 km-long rally that started out from Sholinganallur on bicycles, then switched over to bikes, autorickshaws, cars, buses, and finally fishing boats at Mamallapuram.  

“We want 100% voting this time, which is the aim of the Election Commission. The cycle rally was led by 100 college students for 9 km. They handed over their batons to the two-wheeler riders at Padur, where cultural programmes were held. Kelambakkam and Kovalam too witnessed cultural events with drummers,” explained District Collector S. Malathi Helen.  

At Mamallapuram, over 300 students and first-time voters took part in a kite-flying event. They had made their own kites with messages for voters.
