The NDA is contesting all 126 constituencies in Assam. The BJP has fielded candidates in 90 seats, the Asom Gana Parishad (AGP) in 26, and the Bodoland People’s Front in 11. The BJP and AGP will have a friendly contest in the Sibsagar seat. Assembly Elections updates on March 28, 2026 The BJP-led alliance had won 75 seats in the 2021 election, nine fewer than the 84 won in its breakthrough 2016 election. Mr. Shah said that the wind was blowing in favour of the NDA in Assam and the party and its allies would reap the dividends of the performance by the government led by Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma. “A BJP-led NDA government will be formed here for the third straight term,” he told journalists during a roadshow for the BJP’s Guwahati Central candidate, Vijay Kumar Gupta. “Assam has seen a lot of changes. Peace agreements have been signed with all extremist groups. Today, there is no insurgency or extremism in the State, and the law-and-order situation is satisfactory,” he said. Mr. Shah also attributed the pro-NDA sentiments to the infrastructure push by Prime Minister Narendra Modi in the region. “A semiconductor unit and other industries are coming up in Assam,” he said. Mr. Shah is scheduled to campaign for two incumbent Ministers — Ashok Singhal in north-central Assam’s Dhekiajuli constituency and Chandra Mohan Patowary in western Assam’s Tihu constituency — on Sunday (March 29, 2026). He is expected to visit Assam for another round of campaigning in April.
