OPS to fight from Bodinayakkanur and this time on DMK symbol

Expelled from the AIADMK, former Chief Minister O. Panneerselvam, is all set to contest from the Bodinayakkanur Assembly Constituency seeking votes on the ‘Rising Sun’ symbol.

The party high command, which announced the names on Saturday, has given the ticket to the veteran politician.

Knowing the constituency and the electorate well, Mr Panneerselvam, the sitting MLA is set to emerge victorious, say DMK cadres and in the event of his win and the DMK coming back to power, the party men are confident that Mr Panneerselvam would get a plum post in the government.

However, on the other hand, the AIADMK has a different tale to tell.

The sitting MLA (Panneerselvam) has not kept any of his promises to the electorate. Even basic amenities like road, water and shelter to the masses have not been fulfilled. His name and image in the public has eroded. After having been in the AIADMK enjoying all the positions and the power, his decision to cross was a big blunder in politics.

He had attacked the DMK so much and earned appreciation as a loyalist of late leader Amma (Jayalalithaa), Mr Panneerselvam should not have joined the DMK, was the response from the AIADMK workers in the district.

Above all, the coming together of the AMMK, BJP and other outfits under the NDA led by the AIADMK is seen as a major motivating factor for the DMK’s opponents. “Whether the DMK forms the government or not, we will defeat OPS here….” is the pledge taken by the AIADMK workers.
