A 15-year-old girl died allegedly due to medical negligence after being administered an injection by a suspected fake medical practitioner in Aminagad village of Maski taluk in Raichur district, police said.

The deceased has been identified as Sindhu, a class 9 student of the Government High School in Aminagad.

According to the complaint lodged by the girl’s father, Sindhu, who had been staying with her grandmother, Yellamma, in the village while her parents, Huligeppa and Lakshmi, worked as labourers in Bengaluru, complained of illness on the night of March 27. Around 1.30 a.m., she was taken to a local private clinic run by Uttamakumar, who was allegedly practising without proper medical qualifications.

It is alleged that the accused administered an injection without properly diagnosing her condition. Soon after, the girl developed severe complications, including swelling and blistering at the injection site, and experienced intense pain.

She was immediately shifted to the government hospital in Manvi for further treatment. However, doctors declared her ‘brought dead’ on arrival.

Based on a complaint filed by her father, the police have registered a case against the accused under Section 106(1) of Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita, 2023 (causing death by negligence). Police said the practitioner Uttamakumar, a resident of RH Camp 02, Sindhanur, was reportedly moving around villages and offering treatment to residents.

Further investigation is under way to ascertain the nature of the medicine administered and the credentials of the accused.
