The victim was the daughter of a labourer hailing from Assam. She resided with her parents in a shed near Vittasandra in Begur. Her father works as a scrap collector and also takes up housekeeping jobs in nearby apartments. According to the police, the child went missing on Thursday (March 26) evening while playing near her residence. Despite frantic searches by her family and locals, she could not be traced. A missing complaint was lodged on Friday (March 27) afternoon. Based on the complaint, the police launched a search operation. Later that night, the girl’s body was found in a eucalyptus grove near Bolugutta on the outskirts of Electronics City. Preliminary investigation suggests that unidentified miscreants abducted the child, strangled her to death, and dumped the body in the isolated grove. The body has been shifted to St. John’s Medical College Hospital for a postmortem and efforts are under way to trace the accused. While the police suspect sexual assault, only an autopsy can confirm this, senior officials said.
