Rama Rao has alleged that “disenchantment among people with the Congress dispensation in Telangana is growing due to its ‘misgovernance’ and failure to deliver on its electoral promises including those listed in its ‘guarantee cards’”. He was speaking at a meeting held in Khammam on Wednesday, to felicitate the newly-elected BRS-backed Sarpanches from the erstwhile Khammam district. Mr. Rao accused the ruling Congress party of “coming to power by making 420 promises and subsequently betraying people by failing to fulfill them”. “People will teach a fitting lesson to the Congress for its betrayal, misgovernance and corrupt practices,” he said. Mr. Rao said that the BRS-backed candidates had won nearly 40% of Sarpanch posts in the recently held Gram Panchayat election in the State, thereby registering an impressive victory. “The outcome of the Panchayat polls is a clear indication of growing resentment among rural masses against the misrule of the Congress government,” he said, taking a swipe at the Congress dispensation over ‘urea shortage issue.’ BRS MP V. Ravichandra, former Minister P. Ajay Kumar, and former Khammam MP Nama Nageswara Rao, were present.
