Twelve U.S. troops wounded in Iran strike on base in Saudi Arabia, U.S. official says

Twelve U.S. ​troops were wounded, ‌two of them ​seriously, ⁠in an Iranian military strike on Prince ‌Sultan Air Base in ‌Saudi Arabia, ‌a ⁠U.S. official ⁠told Reuters on Friday (March 27, 2026).

The latest casualties ​add to ‌the more than 300 U.S. military service members ‌who have ​been wounded since the war ⁠against Iran started on February ‌28. Earlier on Friday, the U.S. military said 273 of them ‌had already returned ​to duty. Thirteen U.S. troops ⁠have been killed ⁠in the conflict. 

Iran has kept up retaliatory attacks on Gulf nations it accuses of serving as a launchpad for U.S. strikes on the country, which began in a joint operation with Israel on February 28.

The attack on the Prince Sultan Air Base in Saudi Arabia included at least one missile and several drones, The New York Times and The Wall Street Journal reported, citing unidentified officials.

The soldiers were inside a building at the base when it was struck, the Journal reported.

Several aerial refuelling planes also suffered damage in the attack, the reports said.

Saudi Arabia has previously intercepted several missiles fired near the base.

The Pentagon and U.S. Central Command did not immediately respond to AFP requests for comment.
