Major concession

While it is too early to say whether Iran expects a quid pro quo for the favour granted (Front page, “Iran grants Hormuz passage to India and 4 other nations,” March 27), the situation could be delicate for India. New Delhi may need to dispel any perception that it has taken Iran’s side in its conflict with the U.S. and Israel, as that could send the wrong signal to both these India-friendly nations.

Misleading

Factually incorrect and misleading information appears to have been provided in the Rajya Sabha for two unstarred questions regarding recognition of evening LL.B. degrees by the Bar Council of India. These are question no. 2520 (answered on August 10, 2023) and question no. 748 (answered on February 5, 2026). The Ministry of Law and Justice has claimed that evening LL.B. courses were discontinued from 2000-2001 and such degrees are not eligible for enrolment, with no data maintained on holders. This information is incomplete and misleading.

Engaging

The article, “Dhurandhar: The Revenge and the perils of ‘nationalist violence’” (‘In the Limelight’ – Text & Context section, online March 24/print March 25), was thought-provoking. The way the writer examined the intersection of cinema, nationalism and violence was intellectually engaging. The analysis of how films can influence public perception and shape ideas about citizenship and democracy was striking.
