The Madurai Bench of the Madras High Court on Friday ordered status quo be maintained while hearing a public interest litigation petition that challenged tender notifications issued by the Hindu Religious and Charitable Endowments Department to undertake works to the tune of ₹162.50 crore from the funds of Sri Dhandayuthapani Swamy Temple in Palani in Dindigul district.

A Division Bench of Justices N. Sathish Kumar and M. Jothiraman was hearing a petition filed by S. Vinoth Ragavendran of Chennai.

The petitioner said the G.O. for the proposed works emanated from the HR and CE Minister and not from the Board of Trustees.
