Hundreds of unemployed youths, under the aegis of Akhila Karnataka State Students Association (AKSSA), staged a protest in front of the Deputy Commissioner’s office here on Friday raising serious concern over rising unemployment and irregularities in the recruitment process.

AKSSA president Kantakumar urged the State government to immediately fill the 2.84 lakh vacant posts across various departments. He stated that the delay shows negligence at a time when unemployment among educated youth is rising.

Mr. Kantakumar said that there is a lack of transparency in recruitment conducted through the Karnataka Public Service Commission (KPSC). He urged that the recent appointments be handed over for a Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) probe to ensure fairness and accountability.

The protestors also raised concern over the poor condition of the recently inaugurated Prabuddha Academy – a training centre established at a cost of ₹30 crore to provide competitive exam coaching to unemployed students in Kalaburagi.

Within months of its launch, parts of the cement roof of the building collapsed and the parking shed also caved in showing gross negligence and substandard construction practices, they said.

The agitators strongly criticised the State government for its “tokenism and poor execution” saying that instead of genuinely addressing unemployment, funds are being mismanaged in poorly planned projects.

They also demanded that the State government provide scholarships to students undergoing competitive exam training and ensure transparent and merit-based recruitment.

Their demand included establishing industries in Kalaburagi to generate sustainable employment.

They warned that if the State government fails to begin the recruitment process immediately, AKSSA members will intensify their protests State-wide.
