Vice-Chancellor of Maharshi Valmiki University Shivanand Kelaginamani releasing a short story collection by Basavaraj Donur, Halahalla, in Dharwad. | Photo Credit: SPECIAL ARRANGEMENT A collection of short stories in Kannada, “Halahalla – Stories of Two Decades”, authored by Head of the Department of English at Central University of Karnataka, Kalaburagi, Basavaraj Donur, was released at a book release ceremony in Dharwad recently. Releasing the book published by Manohara Grantha Mala, Vice-Chancellor of Maharshi Valmiki University, Raichur, Shivanand Kelaginamani described the story collection as deeply realistic. He said that the author has captured the finer details of everyday life with clarity and philosophical depth. Speaking about the book, Prajna Mattihalli said that the stories are engaging and that they will draw the readers into the author’s world once they begin reading. She noted that many narratives have been inspired by small incidents from Dr. Donur’s life, while others are fictionalized accounts that take readers back to childhood through simple, powerful storytelling. Presiding over the function, Vinayak T. Nayak observed that one of the stories functions as a political commentary, drawing inspiration from Animal Farm by George Orwell. Reflecting on the hardships of his childhood, Prof. Donur said that the stories have been shaped by lived experiences, memories and the joy found in small moments of life. H.V. Khakhandaki, Jayateerth Jahagirdar, Harsha Dambal, Srinivas Wadappi, D.M. Hiremath, Shashidhar Narendra and others were present.
