Around 290 police personnel were awarded promotions and special grade ranks at a function held here on Wednesday. Lieutenant Governor K. Kailashnathan and Chief Minister N. Rangasamy jointly conferred the rank badges to the promoted personnel belonging to the police and India Reserve Battalion at the event. Home Minister A. Namassivayam in his address said in the last five years 894 police constables were promoted as head constables, 596 head constables promoted as assistant sub inspectors, and 403 assistant sub-inspectors were promoted as sub inspectors. Compensatory pay He also announced the government decision to provide compensatory pay to police personnel before the Pongal festival. The government was keen on addressing the welfare and professional needs of the force, he added. Speaker R. Selvam and Director General of Police Shalini Singh were present.
