In a dramatic turn in a child’s kidnapping and murder case, police opened fire on the accused during a scene reconstruction exercise in Anantapur district on Friday (March 27). The accused, 26-year-old Sarvesh Kumar, who allegedly killed his 5-year-old relative Hemanth Chandra, was injured after he attacked police personnel. According to Superintendent of Police P. Jagadeesh the incident occurred near Kondanakota hills in Yadiki mandal of Tadipatri Assembly constituency when Sarvesh allegedly turned aggressive and assaulted the police personnel with a broken beer bottle. Despite repeated warnings, he refused to surrender, prompting police to first fire four rounds in the air. As he continued the attack, a Circle Inspector shot him in the knee to bring the situation under control. Sarvesh was arrested on Thursday night after police traced him using CCTV footage. The boy was also found dead the same night. Police said the accused had kidnapped the child while he was returning from school and later killed him by crushing his head with a boulder. During police interrogation, it was found that Sarvesh was upset with the boy’s father over a financial dispute, as he had allegedly been denied money to start a business. Circle Inspector Ramasubbayya and a constable were injured in the scuffle and shifted to the government hospital in Tadipatri.
