Belagavi Police on Wednesday arrested four people in connection with Tuesday’s attack on 32-year-old Baswant Kadolkar, driver of Mrunal Hebbalkar, son of Minister Laxmi Hebbalkar’s. A team of city police arrested Monappa Patil, Mitesh Badiger, Sampat Kadolkar and Shivayya Pujari. Police Commissioner Bhushan Borase told reporters in Belagavi on Wednesday that investigators followed upon clues found at the spot and CCTV footage from nearby cameras. Initial investigation revealed that the accused and the victim are well acquainted. Mr. Borase thanked and congratulated Superintendent of Police of the District Civil Rights Enforcement Cell Ravindra Gadadi for his timely action that saved the victim’s life. Mr. Gadadi said that he was returning to his office on Club Road from his house after lunch. He noticed two persons attacking a man who had fallen on the ground. He stopped his vehicle and ran to the spot. The assailants ran away when they heard the officer asking his driver to bring his service revolver. The officer shifted the victim to the nearby Vijaya Hospital and informed doctor Ravi Patil. The young man was saved, Mr. Gadadi said. Mr. Gadadi expressed disappointment over the fact that though a small crowd had gathered to watch the attack, none among them came forward either to call the police, call an ambulance or shift the victim to hospital.
