The Madurai Bench of the Madras High Court has dismissed a petition filed in 2020 challenging the constitutional validity of various provisions of Tamil Nadu Bovine Breeding Act, 2019. The court was hearing a petition filed by S. Venkatesh of Madurai who contended the Act has been brought without any scientific study and the provisions were violative of the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals Act, 1960, Biological Diversity Act, 2002, the Environment (Protection ) Act, 1986 and also the Constitution.
