R. Krishnakumar, a former Communist Party of India (Marxist) [CPI(M)] leader from Pathanamthitta, has joined the Indian Union Muslim League (IUML). Mr. Krishnakumar, who has held several key positions over the years, previously served as president of the Thottappuzhassery grama panchayat and the Koipram block panchayat. He had also held roles, including that of block panchayat vice-president and standing committee chairman, for nearly two decades. He is a former member of the Nair Service Society (NSS) Prathinidhisabha and currently serves on the NSS taluk union committee. Within the CPI(M), he was a member of the area committee and served as a local committee secretary. He had also served as the vice-president of the Aranmula Palliyoda Seva Samiti. Explaining his decision to switch parties, Mr. Krishnakumar said he was drawn to the IUML because of its efforts to unite all sections of society and its commitment to sincere politics. IUML State secretary Shafi Chaliyam welcomed him into the party.
