In a press release issued on Wednesday, KKCCI president Sharanabasappa M. Pappa and secretary Shivaraj V. Inginshetty welcomed the Union government’s announcement of the revamped UDAN scheme, with an outlay of ₹28,840 crore aimed at strengthening regional air connectivity. They said that it has raised fresh hopes for underserved regions like Kalyana Karnataka. Recalling its earlier engagement with the Centre, the KKCCI said that a delegation met Union Civil Aviation Minister Kinjarapu Ram Mohan Naidu in New Delhi on December 18, 2025 and sought restoration of flight services at Kalaburagi. The Minister then assured that services will be resumed and indicated that a revised UDAN scheme was in the works, the KKCCI office-bearers recalled. The chamber noted that Kalaburagi Airport has been operational under the UDAN scheme since November 2019, but flight services were discontinued in October 2025. It pointed out that the airport is currently awaiting route allocation in the upcoming UDAN bidding rounds, citing an official reply by Minister of State for Civil Aviation Murlidhar Mohol in the Rajya Sabha. Stating that the airport is fully developed and operationally ready, KKCCI said that the delay in restoring services appears to be administrative in nature. It added that continued non-operation of the airport has become a serious concern for the region, affecting trade, healthcare access, education and overall economic development. The chamber has urged the Ministry to prioritise Kalaburagi Airport under UDAN 2.0, expedite route allocation in the upcoming bidding rounds and ensure immediate restoration of flights, particularly to Bengaluru. KKCCI expressed the hope that the Centre will act swiftly to restore flight services at Kalaburagi Airport, meeting the long-pending aspirations of people in the Kalyana Karnataka region.
