A training programme for election zonal officers for all nine Assembly constituencies was held under the aegis of the district administration in Cuddalore on Thursday. Presiding over the training programme, District Election Officer and Collector Sibi Adhithya Senthil Kumar oriented the zonal officers on the guidelines as outlined by the Election Commission of India and the rules and responsibilities of the officials. As many as 225 zonal officers have been appointed across the nine Assembly constituencies in Cuddalore district. During the sessions, the workings of electronic voting machines (EVMs) and voter-verified paper audit trail (VVPAT) units were explained. The key responsibilities of the zonal officers, include transporting EVMs, election forms, materials to polling stations on the day prior to polling, providing replacement machines immediately in case of any malfunction during voting, addressing issues at polling stations and ensuring safe transportation of EVMs to the counting centres after the completion of polling.
