About 10-12 killed, 20 injured in bus-truck collision in Markapuram

A major road accident took place near Rayavaram in Markapuram district of Andhra Pradesh’s Prakasam district in the wee hours of Thursday (March 26, 2026). Nearly about 10-12 persons were killed on the spot and over 20 persons were injured in the incident, as per the preliminary reports from the police.

According to the police officials, the accident happened at a turning point where a private travel bus collided with a tipper vehicle loaded with gravel coming from Kanigiri at 5.30 a.m. – 6 a.m. The bus belongs to Harikrishna Travels and was travelling from Nirmal in Telangana to Vinjamuru in Nellore district of Andhra Pradesh.

With the collision of the two vehicles, a massive fire erupted engulfing both the vehicles, leaving the passengers with little time to escape. While there are around 35-40 passengers on board at the time of the accident.

The police and fire department staff rushed to the spot to launch rescue operations and remove the dead bodies of deceased. The injured passengers were admitted into Markapuram Government Hospital for immediate treatment, those in critical condition are to be shifted to Obula Reddy Hospital.

The police authorities are trying to identify the deceased victims to inform their family members and investigating the exact cause of the accident. The death toll is feared to rise as officials continue their search through the charred remains of the vehicle.

Meanwhile, Chief Minister Nara Chandrababu Naidu expressed shock and deep sorrow over the burning of several passengers in the bus accident. He spoke to the officials about the medical assistance being provided to the injured.

District police officials informed the Chief Minister that the injured passengers have been immediately shifted to various hospitals and are receiving treatment. The CM expressed concern over the reports that the death toll is likely to increase.

He directed the officials to conduct a thorough investigation into the causes of the accident and submit a detailed report.
