The Greater Chennai Corporation has removed unauthorised advertisement hoardings in Sholinganallur, Kodambakkam, Adyar, and Teynampet zones. A total fine of ₹1.25 lakh was imposed, with ₹25,000 levied on each violator.

The unauthorised hoardings and banners violated provisions under the Tamil Nadu Urban Local Bodies Rules, 2023. The GCC warned that repeated violations would attract penalties of up to ₹1 lakh, the release added.

The GCC has mandated that all advertisement boards must be installed only after obtaining a licence through its online portal, and undergoing scrutiny by a single-window committee.

The public can report violations by contacting the civic helpline 1913. The GCC said details of licensed hoardings are available on its website.
