The curtains came down on the nine-day annual Sri Kodandarama Swamy Brahmotsavams here on Wednesday (March 25) with the conduct of ‘Chakra Snanam’. Priests immersed the idol of ‘Sudarsana Chakra’, considered a representative of the main deity, at the Kapila Theertham tank in the presence of a large number of devotees, who also simultaneously took a holy dip in the waterbody. Earlier, the idols of Rama, Sita and Lakshmana were taken on a palanquin to the Kapila Theertham, where a ‘Snapana Tirumanjanam’ was performed ahead of the Chakra Snanam. The deities were taken from Alwar Theertham to P.R. Thota in a procession later and returned to the main temple via Theertha Katta street, Kotakommala street and Kotha street, as per an age-old practice. During the ‘Dhwajavarohanam’ performed in the evening, the priests symbolically unfurled the sacred flag hoisted on the first day, marking the end of the annual festival.
