The relocation follows an order from the Madurai Bench of the Madras High Court, directing the eviction of encroachments around the Main Guard Gate, a protected monument. Acting on the directive, civic authorities removed shops operating near Rockfort Teppakulam and Super Bazaar on Tuesday.
